These are brown spots (senile lentigo) that will develop with age. Age spots most often appear on the backs of the hands, on the face, on the neckline and on the skull for men. Family predisposition plays a role. The sun too.

As soon as age spots begin to appear on the face, the process is set in motion. It will be necessary to protect yourself from the sun for life with protective creams. Instead of age spots, we also speak of lentigos or cemetery flowers.

Age spots can be treated with cold by applying liquid nitrogen or dry ice, by peeling with fruit acids or TCA (trichloacetic acid) or even by pigment laser whose adapted beam will target the task.

The fields of action of the Q-Switched laser against brown spots are café au lait spots, keratoses, lentigines, depigmentation of moles, coloring after sclerosis, pregnancy masks resistant to conventional treatments and pigmentation by photosensitization.

Even deep pigmentations are not resistant to the laser which, moreover, leaves no scars. It takes 6 to 8 sessions carried out at 1 or 2 month intervals to completely erase the brown spots. The laser treatment generally involves 1 to 2 sessions of 15 minutes spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The patient feels like a “rubber band” followed by a burning sensation and heat.

Whitening of the lesions is obtained rapidly followed by erythema and swelling around the lesions. When using a flash lamp, the treatment generally consists of 4 sessions spaced one month apart. The shaded appearance of the stain testifies to the effectiveness of the treatment.

Once treated with the laser, the skin containing the pigments will be eliminated after having formed fine crusts often darker than the initial pigmented spot. This crust usually disappears in a week or so and leaves clean, new skin. Initially pink in appearance, this new skin regains its color in a few weeks.

Strict photoprotection is recommended until complete healing. The cost of a session varies according to the number of lesions to be treated and their size. For ten minutes, it is around 90 euros.
